Alaia… Those three syllables are synonymous with high fashion, elegance and mystery. The first time I realized Alaia was not like any other brand was when I watched Clueless (if you haven’t seen that movie, you just have to, it’s a classic ! Cliché, yes, but so cool at the same time). Cher would have done anything (even arguing with a man threatening to shoot her) to save her dress from touching the pavement, ‘because you don’t understand, it’s an Alaia !’
Alaia is different from Chanel, Dior or Saint Laurent, it’s more discreet, as if to be in the know was to be a part of a certain fashion elite. There are some women who can only dress in Alaia, as they say once you’ve experienced wearing his dresses, you simply can’t go back (well… unfortunately that won’t be my case, as I would have to sell all my other clothes !)
I also remember last year, when I visited the Alaia exhibition at Palais Galliera. I was blown away by his designs, the attention to details, the genius behind these ‘works of art’. I, too, wanted to join the club, and be able to wear one of Monsieur Alaia’s creations.
Well, I already own one of his dresses, and I’ll always remember the day I received it (I ordered it on The Outnet a long time ago !). However, I don’t wear it that often, because it is see-through (and I’m not J-Lo at the Met Gala), and I want to keep the feeling of exclusiveness I feel when I put it on.
So imagine how excited I was when I got this white one. It is my dream dress, and even more. The cut, the details, the color… I ‘d wear it every single day if I could. But for now, I wanted to pair it with a rock leather jacket, because why not ? After all, Azzedine Alaia is a mentor to Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Carla Bruni, and many other women, and I believe you have to be a bit of a ‘rebel’ to wear his dresses, in a world dominated by ripped jeans, sneakers and normcore !

Alaia… Ces trois syllabes sont synonymes de haute couture, élégance et mystère. La première fois que j’ai réalisé qu’Alaia n’était pas comme les autres marques, c’est en regardant Clueless (sérieusement, ce film reste l’un de mes préférés, tellement cliché mais tellement parfait !). Cher aura tout fait (c’est-à-dire tenir tête à un homme lui pointant un flingue sur la tempe) pour sauver sa robe, parce que vous ne comprenez pas, ‘c’est une Alaia !’.
Alaia, ce n’est pas comme Chanel, Dior ou Saint Laurent, c’est plus discret, comme si connaître la marque, c’était faire partie d’une certaine élite de connaisseurs. Il y a certaines femmes qui, une fois qu’elle ont fait l’expérience de porter ses robes, ne peuvent plus revenir en arrière et développent une addiction (oui, bon, ça ne sera pas mon cas, ou alors je dois vendre tout le reste de ma garde-robe).
Je me souviens aussi de l’expo au musée Galliera l’année dernière, et à quel point j’ai été scotchée par les modèles, si beaux, avec une attention aux détails et un sens de la coupe que l’on pourrait qualifier de génie. Moi aussi je voulais rejoindre le club fermé…
A vrai dire, je possède déjà une robe, que j’avais trouvée ultra soldée sur The Outnet il y a de ça plusieurs années. Mais je ne la porte pas trop, parce qu’on voit à travers (et bon, je ne suis pas J-Lo au Gala du Met), et que je veux garder ce sentiment d’exclusivité quand je la mets.
Donc imaginez mon excitation quand j’ai reçu celle-ci. C’est ma robe idéale, voire même plus. La coupe, les détails, la couleur… Je la porterais tous les jours sans problème. Mais pour le moment, j’ai eu envie de l’associer à un perfecto rock, parce que pourquoi pas ? Après tout, Azzedine Alaia est connu pour être un mentor et ami de Naomi Campbell, Carla Bruni, Kate Moss, et je pense qu’il faut être un peu une ‘rebelle’ finalement pour porter ses robes, dans un monde dominé par les jeans déchirés, les baskets et le normcore !
